Gorilla Marketing In The Sky

By: katypolansky | Category: Advertising

This week I attended the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA. Overall I was surprised by the lack of innovative marketing efforts. In fact there appeared to very few effective marketing efforts at all. One exception was the gorilla marketing effort put forth by Geico Insurance. Throughout the parade and the game, planes were skywriting messages. Some were greetings like “Happy New Year”, while others were specific marketing messages like “Geico -Save Money”. This certainly is not a cheap endeavor but if the goal is to get people talking about your brand, skywriting messages to a crowds of a million plus (at the parade) and close to a hundred thousand (at the game) seems to a be a very good way to do it.
