BCS Game Programs

I’ve mentioned previously that I wasn’t overly impressed with the marketing effort at the BCS National Championships game. I wrote about two highlights last month. This past week while updating some of my photo logs I realized that there were two more good ideas worth mentioning. This week we’ll talk programs and next week we’ll talk lasers.

The programs at the BCS game were pretty cool. It is undoubtedly a special time when a team makes it all the way to a national championship. The BCS did a god job capitalizing on the collector spirit associated with the game by producing four different covers for the game program. Two covers featured Duck players and two featured Auburn players. Each program also featured one fourth of the Crystal Ball from the BCS trophy. This could lead to a lot of possible purchasing patterns. A person might just purchase one because she simply wanted the info inside. She might also buy two to get both players from her team. Finally she might purchase all four to have the “complete set”.  At $20 per program this clever marketing technique has the ability to lead to a nice chunk of revenue.
