The Cleveland Cavs, KeyBank and Snuggie pulled off a World Record Breaking event at Q Arena on Friday night. All fans in attendance, along with many game day personnel donned a Cavs branded Snuggie for five minutes prior to tip off with the Detroit Pistons. The custom-made, limited edition Cavs’ Snuggies were worn by over 22,500 people earning the Cleveland Cavaliers, Key Bank and Snuggie the distinction of hosting the “largest gathering of people wearing fleece blankets” according to Guinness World Records.

This promotion was a great success on virtually all levels. It garnered a huge amount of media attention (Googling “Cavs Snuggie night” gets 263,000 hits); included a desired giveaway (each fan got to keep his/her Snuggie) and led to a sold out game with some ticket prices reaching nearly 10 times face value on the secondary market. Additionally, KeyBank, the presenting sponsor of the event, did a great job activating the promotion at its Northeast Ohio KeyBank branches by giving away a limited number of blankets to fans with the purchase of a qualified Key Possibilities MasterCard Gift Card.
