I Get What?

Regular readers of my blog know that I have an affection for bargains. This affection can lead to shopping in some less than glamorous places. My favorite of said places is Wal-Mart. I LOVE Wal-Mart. While doing some routine shopping this week I got a huge kick out of one of Wal-Mart’s in store promotions. Wal-Mart recently began offering consumer credit cards. Typically when a company offers a store card, the sign up promotion is pretty good. For instance, if you get a card from United Airlines you can get 30,000 miles or more, which is equivalent to a free ticket in the lower 48 states. If you get a card at Banana Republic you get 10-20% off your initial purchase, plus all kinds of other perks throughout the year. At Wal-Mart if you sign up for a card you get... wait for it.... a free Sam’s brand 2-liter soda of your choice and a Snickers bar. I have no idea how well this promotion has worked for the giant retailer but I look forward to doing some research and finding out. I also a have sneaking suspicion that knowing the average Wal-Mart shopper, this promotion has the potential to be a home run.
