Colts Blood Drive

The next few blog posts are going to focus on the Indianapolis Colts. I was recently in Indianapolis and as is the case with any place I visit, I like to see a local stadium when in town. I went to Lucas Oil Stadium with the hopes of taking a tour and was really surprised when I arrived to a packed parking lot. It just so happened that my one free day in town coincided with the “Kickoff Event” of the “Bleed Blue Blood Drive” held by the Indianapolis Colts and the Indiana Blood Center.
The Kickoff Event event consisted of a blood drive in the basement of the stadium and a huge health fair on Lucas Oil Plaza (part of the concourse inside the stadium) that included both health screenings and giveaways. Fans who donated blood were also treated with the opportunity to play games on the Colts field and meet Defensive Back Marlin Jackson. It was reported that thousands of fans attended the health fair and more than 1,640 donated blood. This blood drive is a great example of a sports franchise using both its celebrity and facilities in a way to benefit the community that sustains it.
