Rangers Marriage Proposal Hoax

This weekend a bit of controversy was stirred up around using actors in entertainment bits at ballparks and in arenas. In honor of Valentine’s Day the New York Rangers staged the often used marriage proposal bit during its game verse the Tampa Bay Lightening. Here is the video posted by hockeybash.com:

This clearly was a decent marketing effort by the Rangers' marketing department because the web is abuzz about the story. The fans in stadium, however, were left to contemplate a poor guy getting his heart broken on Valentine’s Day. Or so they thought. It turns out the couple were paid actors. This begs the questions, should fans be let in on secret acts after the fact? Or is it fair game to entertain them in any way a marketing staff chooses? The answers to these questions vary, like most things, based on the a team's audience. You know your fan base better than anyone else so judge accordingly.
