"Blue Since..."

My final thoughts on my Lucas Oil Stadium Tour revolve around making a team’s fans feel valued. The ultimate is of course when a team can make fans feel valued while accomplishing a preexisting task as well. The Colts do a great job of this. It is amazing how a seemingly small idea can create a throng of lifelong fans.
The upper level concourses of Lucas Oil were lacking a little in visual appeal. Artwork or signage of some kind was needed. The design and marketing staff knew this and came up with a great idea on how to fill the void. They decided to invite season tickets holders to a photo shoot with the chance of getting their picture displayed on banners inside the stadium. The result was the “Blue Since” campaign which pictures selected season tickets holders along with the year they first attended. According to our tour guide this is one of the most popular promotions the Colts have ever held. When I asked him why he thought this was the case he said it was because it made the fans feel valued. As evidence he claimed that at every game he sees at least one fan pointing out his/her sign to another attendee. Fans invest a lot in their teams and don’t often have much to show for it. It is promotions like this that keep them coming back time and time again even if the product on the field is less than desirable.
